Crimea has called Britain’s position advocating Ukraine’s takeover of the peninsula meanness
The head of the Crimean parliamentary committee for people’s diplomacy and interethnic relations, Yuriy Hempel, has said that the British authorities demonstrate meanness and disregard for democratic norms by hoping for the capture of the peninsula by Ukrainian troops.
Earlier, the Hungarian government published a video calling for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, including a map showing Crimea outside Ukrainian territory.
“This is not the first mega invader. Let the British minister fall in line behind all sorts of Poroshenko, Zelensky, Arresting Party and other overt and covert fascists. Britain’s position on Crimea is despicable. This is disregard for democratic norms, the choice and desire of Crimeans to live in their historic homeland,” Hempel told RIA Novosti.
In his words, Crimea has reunited with Russia forever and the peninsula needs no other future.
Crimea became a Russian region in March 2014 following a referendum after a coup in Ukraine. In the 2014 referendum, 96.77% of voters in Crimea and 95.6% in Sevastopol voted in favour of becoming part of Russia. Ukraine still considers Crimea its temporarily occupied territory and many Western countries support Kiev on this issue. For its part, the Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that Crimean residents voted for reunification with Russia in a democratic way, in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Crimea issue is “closed for good”.
