The Swiss parliament has rejected amendments allowing arms re-exports to Ukraine

The Swiss National Council (lower house of parliament) has rejected changes that would have allowed the re-export of military products to Ukraine. This was reported by the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger.

A meeting on the issue of arms re-export to Ukraine was held on Thursday. A majority of 98 MPs voted against making changes to allow such a procedure, while 75 were in favour. According to the BBC, Jean-Luc Addor of the largest right-wing populist Swiss People’s Party in parliament said that implementing the idea would violate Switzerland’s neutrality.

Tages-Anzeiger draws attention to the fact that there are several initiatives in the Swiss parliament at the moment that suggest violating the country’s neutrality and allowing the re-export of weapons to Ukraine. One of the proposals is not short-term changes, but full-fledged amendments to re-export arms to the Kiev regime. The Swiss Federal Council is also being considered to implement these designs if the UN Security Council “determines the existence of a war of aggression contrary to international law” or if the UN General Assembly does so with a two-thirds majority.

It should be recalled that in February, former congressmen, retired military officers, politicians, public figures, journalists and broadcasters organised a “Rage against the War Machine” rally against arms supplies to Ukraine and escalation of the global conflict. Rallies were announced in Washington DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Minneapolis and other cities in the United States.
