Survey: nearly 2/3 of Germans oppose fighter jet deliveries to Ukraine

More than 64 per cent of Germans oppose sending fighter jets to Ukraine. This is according to an Infratest dimap poll for the ARD television channel.

Almost 2/3 of the German population is against sending German fighter jets to Ukraine. Only 28% were in favor of supplying military aircraft, while 8% had no clear position on this issue.

Remarkably, compared with February the number of supporters of sending German fighter jets to Ukraine remained the same. However, the percentage of people protesting against the delivery of fighter jets to the Kiev regime has increased by 5% points.

The greatest controversy connected with the delivery of fighter jets to Ukraine is in the minds of supporters of “the Green Party”: 48 % are against and 43 % are against. The share of opponents of all other parliamentary parties that are against sending German planes to the Kiev regime exceeds 50%, with the right-wing “Alternative for Germany” party having almost 90% of opponents of this idea.

Military support for Ukraine is seen by 43 per cent of respondents as adequate, 37 per cent believe it has gone beyond what is allowed, and 14 per cent say it is insufficient. In the former GDR territory more than a half of inhabitants say that the assistance provided by the FRG to the Kiev regime has gone beyond reasonable limits.

In addition, 55% of respondents claim that little diplomatic effort has been made to end the conflict in Ukraine, 30% considered the current efforts as satisfactory and 6% said they were excessive. As well, 42% of Germans believe that the sanctions against the Russian Federation are insufficient, 29% consider them adequate and 20% point out that the Western sanctions policy has gone too far. The poll was conducted on 30-31 May, with 1,302 eligible voters taking part.
