Director of Russia’s Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov said that Moscow views terrorist attacks at Russian nuclear power facilities as attempts by Kiev and its Western handlers to provoke a nuclear disaster in Europe.
“The Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant continues to be shelled. Terrorist attacks are being carried out on infrastructure facilities of the Kaliningrad, Kursk, Leningrad and Smolensk nuclear power stations,” he said.
Bortnikov stressed that the Russian side assesses this as “the intention of Kiev and its handlers to provoke a nuclear disaster in Europe”.
The Russian leader’s press secretary, Dmitriy Peskov, said that the degree of NATO’s involvement in the conflict in Ukraine was growing.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Grushko said that Ukraine had blocked all the initiatives of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to strengthen the safety of the ZNPP.
According to him, the Ukrainian authorities rejected the IAEA head’s proposal to set up an operational and physical nuclear safety protection zone at the plant.
