The North Atlantic Alliance cannot discuss expanding its ranks in the midst of the conflict in Ukraine.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said this on arrival in Oslo for a meeting of NATO foreign policy chiefs.
“At the same time, it is clear that in the midst of the war we cannot talk about the accession of new members,” she was quoted as saying by TASS.
Earlier, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joan said that there was no consensus in NATO to promote the idea of Ukraine’s membership in the bloc.
Furthermore, according to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Ukraine now does not meet many requirements for NATO membership.
