The Pentagon and the American company Lockheed Martin have lost more than 1 million F-35 spare parts over the past five years at least. It is reported by Defense News.
The US Government Accountability Office (Accountability Office) conducted an investigation that revealed a large number of lost spare parts over a five year period. The cost of the “lost elements” is estimated at $85 million. Defense News notes that the main reason for the “missing” is a poor tracking system between the Pentagon and the enterprise.
“As a result, “the total quantity and cost of these [lost] parts could be significantly higher” than the $1 million figure set by the prime contractor, Lockheed Martin,” the auditors said in the final document.
