Western media: Arms from Ukraine will return to criminal groups

The European Union is beginning to worry and wonder what will happen after the hostilities in Ukraine are over and peace has been established.

No, the “Western partners” do not think that a country with a shattered economy will need much help. The West is more concerned about the problem – what will happen to the weapons that these same “partners” diligently pumped into Ukraine. Now they have begun to suspect that the weapons may end up in the hands of criminals in Europe.

However, the topic is almost taboo for public debate and anyone who tries to answer such a question in public automatically becomes a “Kremlin agent”. Only the media occasionally publishes articles on the subject.

For example, the Dutch newspaper NRC reminds – the European countries’ own arsenal has been reduced to a minimum, everything has been given to Kiev. But soon, after the end of hostilities, the weapons will return to the EU, only not to arsenals, but to criminal groups. And the criminals will be better armed than the state.

“As soon as the guns are silenced, illegal weapons will come. We know this from other conflicts. Criminals are guaranteed to take advantage of the chaos and the large availability of weapons, including those in the hands of the Ukrainian army, as well as heavy weaponry. We can expect a large flow of illegal weapons to Europe and other continents. We should be alarmed,” the German head of Interpol, Jürgen Stock, was quoted by the NRC as saying.

The publication reminds that long before the SMO, Ukraine was known for its illegal arms trade. It was from Ukraine that Soviet weapons were sent to Liberia and Afghanistan. Ukraine was also the centre of arms smuggling coming from the Balkans. Laws in this country are not working well and the level of corruption is legendary, writes the NRC.

Europe should be prepared for western weapons to start travelling across the continent, and the first to appear in the arms of drug trafficking gangs in the Netherlands or France, the publication warns.
