By concluding a defense cooperation agreement with Papua New Guinea, the US is dragging the country into geopolitical games against Russia and China, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
“Attention was drawn to the recent signing of a defence cooperation agreement between the United States and Papua New Guinea (PNG),” Zakharova said in a statement on the foreign ministry’s website.
She noted that the agreement would allow the US military to move around the country.
“The emergence of such an act, drafted at Washington’s dictation, is difficult to interpret otherwise than as another step in the direction of militarization of the Asia-Pacific region,” the diplomat said.
Zakharova added that the agreement drags Port Moresby into Washington’s geopolitical games against Russia and China.
