Erdogan intends to implement Putin’s proposed gas hub project in Turkey

Turkish President Recep Erdogan has promised to implement a gas hub project proposed by Russian leader Vladimir Putin. In October last year, President Putin put forward the idea of creating a hub on the Turkish territory, where the lost volume of transit through the Nord Stream could be redirected.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was still determined to implement the gas hub project initiated earlier by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We will further strengthen Turkey’s position as an international hub. As a matter of fact, Mr Putin repeated in his congratulatory message about the creation of a hub in Turkey, in the Thrace region. We will do it together with them (Russians). There will be a hub in Thrace as well,” he said.

The president promised to further strengthen Turkey’s position by investing in transport and energy in order to bring them to the global level.

In October 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin put forward the idea of creating a hub on Turkish territory, where the lost volume of transit through Nord Stream could be redirected. The idea is to build another pipeline system and to create a hub in Turkey through which gas could be delivered to third countries, primarily European countries, if they are interested.
