Russian Defense Ministry: The United States is looking for ways to use biotechnology militarily to outpace its rivals. The United States has allocated about $90 billion over the next five years for the implementation of this strategy.

The United States is setting long-term goals for finding military applications of biotechnology to outpace strategic rivals, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the chief of radiation chemical and biological defence forces, has said.

“The document sets long-term goals for the development of biotechnology and the search for its military applications. The stated goal, quote, is “…to ensure technological sovereignty in the field of bioproduction and to outpace strategic rivals,” he said at a briefing, quoting the new US bioproduction strategy approved March 23, 2023.

Kirillov pointed out that the strategy was developed by the US military department.

“The amount of funding for activities under the approved strategic documents for the next five years is about $90 billion. At the same time, the US intends to strengthen global control of the biological situation in the world and reserves the right to conduct “dual-use” research, including outside the national territory,” the general stressed.
