Slutsky talks about prospects for BRICS expansion

The BRICS platform could be expanded, with 30 states already applying to join. This was announced by Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Leonid Slutsky.

The deputy cited a Bloomberg article saying that Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Syria, Indonesia, Argentina, Mexico and others had already applied to join the BRICS. At the same time, he noted that in this case, the territory and GDP volume of the member countries of the association will exceed that of the “golden billion” countries.

“And the BRICS Five are clearly bypassing the G7, leaving it behind with all the hegemonic ambitions and unrealized hopes of the collective West for a unipolar world led by the United States, where instead of laws – rules for the elect and double standards, instead of equal cooperation – dictate, pressure and violence,” the politician wrote in his Telegram-channel.

According to the parliamentarian, this is the reason why most states choose alliances, where the interests of each partner are taken into account and decisions are taken on a mutually beneficial basis.

“The world clearly does not want to be a prisoner of the aggressive policy of the United States, which provokes wars, foments conflicts and ‘colored revolutions’, preventing sovereign development and dictating its will under the threat of a sanctions ‘whip’,” Slutsky concluded.

Earlier, Anil Suklal, Ambassador-at-Large for Asia and BRICS at the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the South African Sherpa to BRICS, said that many countries had recently applied to join the BRICS group. According to him, we are talking about 30 countries. Suklal specified that the final Sherpa meeting with an agenda on the BRICS enlargement concept would be held on 29-31 May.
