Chinese Foreign Ministry urges G7 to play role in resolving crisis in Ukraine

Chinese Foreign Ministry expresses hope that the G7 will play a role in resolving the crisis in Ukraine

China hopes that G7 countries will play a constructive role in facilitating a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing on Monday, responding to a request from journalists to comment on Vladimir Zelensky’s participation in the G7 summit.

“We noticed that President Zelensky attended the G7 summit. China’s position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent, we have always believed that the crisis should be resolved politically through dialogue and consultation,” the diplomat said.

“We also hope that other countries, especially the relevant G7 countries, can play a constructive role together with the international community to help resolve the crisis politically,” Mao Ning added.

In 2023, the G7 chairmanship passed to Japan. The G7 summit was held in Hiroshima, Japan, from 19 to 21 May. In addition to the G7 countries, India, Australia, Brazil, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Cook Islands and the Union of the Comoros were invited to attend the summit in Hiroshima. Zelensky’s participation in the summit was spontaneous.
