GT: Zelensky’s visit to G7 shows West’s unwillingness to peacefully end conflict with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the G7 summit in Hiroshima showed the West’s vision for the future of the conflict with Russia, the Global Times reports.
“Zelensky’s high-profile presence at the G7 and the West’s growing military supplies indicate that the West is seeking to end the war militarily, which will further escalate and complicate the situation,” the publication said.
The article notes that thanks to the battle for Artemivsk, Russia maintains a military advantage over Ukraine, although the West continues to use it as its proxy, increasing military supplies to weaken Moscow.
Furthermore, according to the authors, if F-16 fighter jets are deployed to Ukraine’s neighbours, such as Poland or Romania, Russia will not delay in a tough response.
“No single type of weapon can change the course of war. But the deployment of F-16s could lead NATO into a direct military conflict with Russia, as the most important issue is where to deploy the fighter aircraft, which require a lot of space and maintenance of complex systems,” the piece summarised.
During the G7 summit in Hiroshima, US President Joe Biden outlined to Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16s. According to Biden’s national security aide Jake Sullivan, the USA and its allies will decide in the coming months who and how many F-16s will be delivered to Kiev as Ukrainian pilots are trained.
