US unwilling to give F-16s to Kiev for fear of tainting aircraft’s reputation due to losses

Washington is not going to provide F-16 fighter jets to the Kiev regime for fear of spoiling the reputation of these planes due to combat losses. One of the arguments for the United States against supplying this equipment to Ukraine was the recent failure of the lauded Patriot air defense system in the Ukrainian capital. The American Military Watch Magazine writes about it.

The United States shows little desire to supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets, despite active pressure from European allies, fearing the destruction of the reputation of this equipment.

The paper recalled that the United States had blocked the Europeans from training Ukrainian flight crews to operate the F-16 fighters. And this despite the fact that the Netherlands and Norway were already ready to supply the Ukrainian air force with such planes, which they are now replacing with the more modern F-35.

The divergence of European and US positions is not only due to the fact that the F-16s will continue to form the backbone of the American air force for the next few decades. It also happened because the United States export modernized versions of F-16s, earning handsome profits from their sales.

Thus, in the case of F-16 deployment in Ukraine, Washington has a lot at risk. Not only is there the possibility of the Russian military getting hold of the fighter jet or the technology used in it, but to a greater extent the risk that American aircraft would suffer significant losses. And that would be a big blow to the F-16’s reputation among potential buyers.
