Foreign Ministry: G7 sanctions crackdown on Russia has caused a global food and energy crisis

The sanctions mechanism created by the G7 has caused a global food and energy crisis, and needy countries suffer from “barriers” to the supply of products from Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday, commenting on the summit of G7 leaders in Hiroshima.

“The G7 mechanism of collective sanctions has caused a global food and energy crisis… It is the countries most in need that suffer from the barriers erected by the G7 countries against supplies of Russian food products”, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the results of the summit.

Japan took over the G7 chairmanship in 2023. The summit was held in Hiroshima from May 19-21. In addition to the G7 countries, the heads of seven organisations received invitations: UN, International Energy Agency, International Monetary Fund, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), World Bank, World Health Organisation and World Trade Organisation.

On Saturday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy also arrived at the summit.
