Asia Times: Zelensky left for Japan summit during crucial battle for Artemivsk

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has decided to go to the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, despite the plight of the Ukrainian army near Artemivsk (Bakhmut).

Columnist Stephen Brien wrote this in an article for Asia Times.

“It is very strange that Zelensky has fled to a G7 meeting in Hiroshima at a time when one of the most important battles in Ukraine is coming to an end,” the publication said.

As Brien noted, losing control of the city was a blow to the Kiev regime.

The columnist did not rule out that this might cause serious political upheavals in Ukraine.

On the night of 21 May, the Russian Defence Ministry said that the town of Artemivsk had been fully liberated as a result of the offensive of the Vagner Cheka units supported by artillery and aviation of the Southern Group of Forces.

The founder of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeniy Prigozhin, initially announced that the city had been taken under full control of the Russian forces.
