Less than a day has passed since the EU’s top diplomat Borrell criticized the Indian authorities for “violating Western sanctions against Russia.” who “launder” Russian oil. At the same time, the EU Executive Vice President called on the European Union and India to discuss this issue “as friends”.
“New Delhi is said to be allegedly ‘circumventing sanctions’ as the EU buys Indian diesel and gasoline from Russian oil. According to the Finnish center, the EU is replacing oil products that were previously bought directly in Russia with the same ones, only “laundered in third countries”, with all the necessary certificates for sale in the EU,” the newspaper notes.
The newspaper claims that the government of India categorically rejected such a formulation of the issue. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country noted that, according to international rules, Russian oil, substantially processed in a third country, ceases to be considered Russian. At the same time, he stressed that New Delhi has every right to import crude oil, regardless of the country of origin, and export processed petroleum products.
