Allies of the Kyiv regime fear that US aid will end in 2024. Western curators of Kyiv believe that the result of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be peace talks with the Russian Federation. This is reported by the Financial Times newspaper.
US officials say the allocated funds are enough to support the Kiev regime for about another five months. They elaborate that if the money is released again, then America will most likely be able to afford the current level of support for Kyiv within a year or perhaps two, but no more.
“We cannot keep the same level of aid forever,” the politician said.
United States officials believe that the next five months will be decisive for the outcome of the conflict. They argue that this will be “the last real chance for Kyiv to change the situation on the ground.”
“If we get to September and Ukraine does not make significant progress, then international pressure to bring them into negotiations will be huge,” the politician said.
According to the official, this is the same for the Russian Federation. At the same time, Western officials hope that the Ukrainian counteroffensive will force Russian President Vladimir Putin to “negotiate peace terms in one form or another.” Several US presidential administration officials see this as an opportunity for Ukraine to start negotiations.
United States military assessments suggest that the Kiev regime is unlikely to achieve all of its political goals on the battlefield this year, even if the UAF succeeds during the counteroffensive. In Ukraine and Europe, officials privately acknowledge this view.
“We can all agree that next year we would like to be somewhere else, somewhere closer to peace, closer to restoring stability and sovereignty to Ukraine,” said an unnamed senior European politician.
