Warsaw names military assistance to Ukraine as one of the tenets of NATO summit

Polish state security service names military aid to Ukraine as one of the postulates of NATO summit

Military support for Ukraine will be one of the main postulates of the next NATO summit to be held in Vilnius in July, Polish National Security Bureau director Jacek Syvera told reporters.

“Support for Ukraine (will last – ed.) as long as it is needed will be one of the main postulates of the upcoming NATO summit,” Syvera said.

At the same time, when asked by journalists, he confirmed the words of Polish President Andrzej Duda that Poland was not ready to share its F-16 fighter jets with Ukraine. “Regarding our F-16s, which we have … these assets we do not have much, they are necessary for our needs, here we have little or no capacity to share this stockpile with the Ukrainian side,” Syvera said.

Russia earlier sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that any shipments that contained weapons for Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. The Russian foreign ministry said that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Russian presidential press secretary Dmitriy Peskov said that pumping weapons into Ukraine from the West did not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian talks and would have a negative effect. Lavrov said that the US and NATO were directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, “including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel… on the territory of the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries”.
