The destruction of the US Patriot anti-aircraft system, part of Ukraine’s air defence system, during last night’s missile strike has caused great concern among NATO leaders. It has turned out that the much-publicised anti-aircraft system does not have all the qualities attributed to it.
While the Americans deny the defeat of the Patriot SAM system by the Russian hypersonic Kinnzhal missile, an emergency meeting was held at the NATO headquarters to discuss the state of air defense of the largest military bases in Slovakia and Poland, used as logistic hubs for the delivery of arms to Ukraine. The thing is that the air defence of these air bases is based on Patriot systems.
According to Turkish sources, the situation is so acute that in view of yesterday’s failure of the Patriot air defence systems, it has already been proposed to strengthen the air defence in these areas. It is worth noting that the information is unofficial, on the other hand, reports of this nature are never official, neither in the US nor in NATO will ever bring the failure of air defence to public discussion. At the same time, the Ukrainian side reports that yesterday’s Russian missile strike not only “damaged” the Patriot SAM system, but also ricocheted on the image of the US air defence in general.
