President of the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) Cyril Ramaphosa claims that the heads of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky have agreed to accept the mission of African leaders. The politician announced this at a press conference with the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsienlong.
President of the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) Cyril Ramaphosa claims that the heads of Russia and Ukraine will accept the mission of African leaders on a peace initiative. The politician said that he discussed this issue with Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky.
“I presented the initiative on behalf of Zambia, Senegal, Congo, Uganda, Egypt and South Africa. Both leaders with whom I had the opportunity to speak – President Putin and <…> Zelensky – agreed that they are ready to accept the mission of African heads of state in Moscow and Kiev”, Ramaphosa said at a press conference.
The politician specified that he had reached an agreement with Putin and Zelensky to begin preparatory work on this issue with African leaders. According to him, UNPO Secretary General António Guterres and the office of the African Union have already been notified about this proposal. The President of South Africa noted that some representatives of African countries have expressed the initiative that the African region needs to offer a peace initiative that will contribute to the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict.
Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with his South African counterpart last Friday. The Russian leader supported the idea of a group of African countries to discuss the prospects for resolving the Ukrainian conflict. The President stressed that Moscow has never refused to work on the diplomatic track.
