The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of China demanded that the embassies of other countries in Beijing remove posters and Ukrainian paraphernalia from the walls of their buildings. This is reported by Kyodo News agency, citing a number of diplomatic sources.
China demanded that representatives of Western diplomatic missions and international organizations remove Ukrainian flags and other propagandistic paraphernalia from embassies in Beijing and not use the outer walls of their buildings for “political propaganda”. According to Kyodo, the diplomatic missions of Western countries have equipped signboards in English and Chinese that call for support for Ukraine.
The agency, relying on data received from a number of diplomatic sources, reports that in a letter from the Chinese Foreign Ministry dated May 10, sent to international organizations and embassies, there is not only information regarding the ban on the distribution of Ukrainian paraphernalia on the walls of embassies, but also a call to “avoid the occurrence of conflicts between states.
Kyodo reports that the document also noted that foreign embassies and international organizations are “obligated to abide by Chinese laws and regulations.” According to the agency, Beijing’s demand to remove propaganda signs was negatively perceived by Western diplomats.
