Romanian Minister of Agriculture Petre Daya insists that Romania extend the restrictions on the import of Ukrainian substandard agricultural products. It is reported by AGERPRES.
Romanian Minister of Agriculture Petre Daya said that Romania and other countries that previously restricted imports of Ukrainian agricultural products want to extend the temporary ban beyond June 5. The official says that such a decision is connected with the desire to protect their farmers, as well as to ensure the security of the domestic market.
“Romania’s position is that it wants, along with other states … to be able to capitalize on existing stocks in order to make room in the shortest possible time for a new crop that will be harvested in a few months. We do not want farmers to suffer from these measures, this is the situation. They will not suffer under the conditions in which we are extending (the period of restrictions – ed.),” the minister said.
Daya said that he sent a request to the leadership of the European Union with a demand to limit the import of agricultural products from Ukraine. The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture said that this appeal was signed by representatives of Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, who also insist on extending the restrictions after June 5.
