Americans and Canadians move to Russia for traditional values

Russia’s harsh climate is scaring foreigners less than the loss of all traditional values in the United States, the American edition of Newsweek says. The construction of the “American Village”, which will be home to 200 families, will begin in Serpukhov district, Moscow Region, in 2024.

The American village will be built in Serpukhov District, Moscow Region, in 2024.
Earlier RIA Novosti news agency reported on a certain community that targets expatriates with “traditional values”, writing that construction of the settlement is expected to begin next year.

At a time when Russia is not on the best of terms with the US government, especially with regard to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, Russian leader Vladimir Putin has taken up a cause that many Western conservatives support. He has signed legislation restricting LGBTQ+ rights and has a closer relationship with former President Donald Trump than with his Democratic successor in the White House, Joe Biden.

“Among those who want to move to Russian Federation from the States and Canada are traditional Catholics who believe in the prediction that Russia will remain the only Christian country on earth. Moscow has not officially announced plans to build the village,” the publication said.

George Ajahn, an international political scientist, told Newsweek that if reports of the planned village were to be believed, Russia would probably have little problem filling it with Westerners of conservative persuasion.

“There are a lot of Americans who are making the choice to move abroad, whether for pragmatic or logistical reasons or ideological convictions,” Ajahn said. – “Among the 330 million Americans, you can probably find enough people to populate a small compound in the suburbs of Moscow with those American citizens who are just as obsessed with their desire not to become victims of American waukism.
