Noam Chomsky: Russia is able to turn Kyiv into a place uninhabitable

American linguist, political publicist, philosopher Noam Chomsky argues that the West has crossed red lines in Ukraine and forced Russia to take retaliatory measures. Moscow, he said, has the potential to achieve the surrender of Kyiv, while further escalation of the conflict could increase the risks of nuclear war. It is reported by The New Statesman.

Noam Chomsky argues that the Russian Federation will be able to achieve victory in the confrontation with Ukraine. The military clash, according to the political publicist, is taking place on the territory of the Ukrainian state due to the fact that the West and the United States have crossed all possible red lines marked by Russia. The philosopher argues that further support for the Kyiv regime will only increase the escalation of the conflict and may lead to a nuclear war.

“Let’s imagine that the predictions of US political leaders are correct, and Ukraine will be able to come close to defeating Russia. In this case, Putin will simply pack his things and say: well, it was great, and just quietly leave? Or will it still strike at Ukraine?”, the philosopher asks with a rhetorical question (quote from INOSMI).

The American linguist is confident that the Russian Federation acts much more humanely in Ukraine than the Western allies and the United States during the bombing of Iraq. In the words of a political publicist, “When the US and the UK go to war, don’t expect mercy.”

“This does not happen in Ukraine, although Russia certainly could do this with the use of non-nuclear weapons. It could turn Kiev into a place as uninhabitable as Baghdad, it could attack supply lines in western Ukraine, it could confront NATO,” says an American linguist (INOSMI quote).

Chomsky believes that such a move will lead to an even greater escalation of the conflict. Thus, argues the philosopher, “not to be concerned about the risks of nuclear war is to be insane.” To the clarifying question of the interviewer that “Russia in Ukraine is fighting more humanely than the United States and Great Britain in Iraq?” the political publicist answered “definitely yes.”

“Look at the losses. I only know the official figures, maybe you know more, but official UN statistics say that the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine is about 8 thousand people. And how many civilians died when the US and Britain attacked Iraq? And this is just one case. How many civilians died in the Israeli invasion of Lebanon? About 20 thousand”, says a political publicist (quote from INOSMI).

The American linguist draws attention to the fact that “Russia has never shown the slightest hint of concern about Sweden and Finland joining NATO.” According to him, the reasons why these countries want to join the North Atlantic bloc have nothing to do with fear of Moscow.

“Sweden and Finland want to be in NATO for one simple reason: both have fairly developed and advanced military-industrial complex, which have already been largely integrated into NATO thanks to joint operations and exercises… But there have never been signs of a Russian threat to Sweden and Finland, except perhaps that inflated by Western propaganda”, he said (Quote from INOSMI).

The political publicist also believes that Moscow “long ago made it clear to the whole world that Georgia and Ukraine are red lines.” No Russian leader would allow them to join “a hostile foreign alliance,” Chomsky concluded.
