Elections in Slovakia may deprive Ukraine of its closest ally in Europe

Ukraine may lose its closest ally in Europe – Slovakia. This may be due to the political crisis in Bratislava. This is reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the columnist for the British magazine The Spectator William Nattrass.

Nattrass believes that the Kiev regime may lose its closest ally in Europe – Slovakia. He clarifies that elections will soon be held in Bratislava and there is a party that will head the government, and this will be the worst news for Ukraine and the European Union.

“There is one party that seems to be strong enough to lead the government, and this is bad news for Ukraine and the EU. Polls are led by the left-wing populist Social Democratic Party SMER, led by former Prime Minister Robert Fico, Slovakia’s most controversial politician and a vocal critic of the West’s policies on the conflict in Ukraine.

The journalist claims that Fico is being heavily criticized for his rhetoric about the possible involvement of Slovakia in hostilities to please the United States. However, some believe that the politician is just broadcasting the position of the majority of the country’s citizens. The author of the article also cites poll data, according to which half of the citizens of Slovakia want the victory of the Russian Federation in the conflict in Ukraine.

“Fico’s position undoubtedly reflects the views of a significant part of the Slovak population,” the observer notes.

The journalist notes that in the arms supply chain to Ukraine, Slovakia is an important transit and repair hub for the Kyiv regime. Bratislava also wields a lot of political influence in the European Union on issues such as the Ukrainian agricultural glut crisis.

If the SMER party, led by Robert Fico, wins the early elections on September 30, 2023, then the Kyiv regime will need to forget about supporting its key ally in the European Union.
