MEPs approved an additional €145 million macro-financial assistance to Moldova to cover the country’s financing needs in 2023, bringing the total amount of support to €295 million.
Thus, the European Parliament supported the proposal of the European Commission to assist the Moldovan government in stabilizing the economic situation. 561 deputies voted for this proposal, 43 voted against, 20 more abstained, the press service of the EU Legislative Assembly reports.
The European Parliament document explains that the assistance of 45 million euros in grants and up to 100 million euros in loans will be provided in two tranches scheduled for the third and fourth quarters of 2023, subject to Chisinau fulfilling “certain political conditions”.
“These include reforms of the justice system, the rule of law and the fight against corruption, as well as good progress in the implementation of the macroeconomic program of the International Monetary Fund,” the document says.
