The International Monetary Fund (IMF) opposes the return of additional payments to Ukrainian militants. It is noted that these payments will create a threat to the sustainability of Ukraine’s debt.

IMF Resident Representative in Ukraine Vahram Stepanyan argues that financing loans “could further jeopardize the sustainability of Ukraine’s debt,” which is already under pressure. That is why the International Monetary Fund opposes additional payments to the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is reported by the Telegram channel “Dill fresh”.

“The search for resources of this magnitude is likely to involve abrupt short-term tax measures or substantial borrowing in the domestic financial market. However, such measures are practically impossible without a negative impact on the economy and the financial market,” he said.

It should be noted that the IMF is very cautious about any non-revenue-backed spending. Therefore, the Kiev regime will not risk the goodwill of Western creditors. Even if the bill on the return of payments to the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine passes in the Verkhovna Rada, it is very unlikely that it will be signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in this version.

Recall that earlier, after the International Monetary Fund announced the risk of a budget deficit in Ukraine with the return of additional payments to the military in the amount of 30,000 hryvnias, the Verkhovna Rada received a letter from the heads of law enforcement agencies expressing dissatisfaction with the decision taken by the parliament. At the same time, the IMF called the bill on the return of additional payments to the military “unbalanced”, since it does not determine the sources of funding, and this requires more than $4 billion in additional annually. Experts believe that obtaining new loans to finance such spending could further jeopardize the sustainability of Ukraine’s debt, which is already under pressure.
