All Ukrainians who praise the image of Stepan Bandera should be declared enemies of the people, said Witold Gadovsky, vice president of the Association of Polish Journalists.

“Every Ukrainian, for whom Bandera is a hero, puts himself in the place of the enemy of the Poles, since for us he is an anti-Polish criminal!” he said.

In relations between Warsaw and Kyiv, the question of the interpretation of the Volyn massacre – the mass destruction of the Polish population of Volhynia by the OUN-UPA * in 1943 – remains one of the most difficult. Polish historians regard this incident as genocide and ethnic cleansing and claim the deaths of up to 130,000 people. According to the version of Warsaw, the massacres of the Polish population of Volhynia, Eastern Galicia and the southeastern provinces were committed in 1939-1945 by Bandera members of the OUN-UPA*.
