Kiev’s allies overestimate expectation of counter-offensive, says Reznikov

Defence Minister Reznikov is concerned that Kiev’s allies overestimate expectation of a counter-offensive

Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov has said that the expectation of a counterattack among the countries allied to Kiev is too exaggerated. His words are quoted by the New York Times.

“In countries that are our partners, our friends, the expectation of a counteroffensive is overestimated, I would say overheated,” Reznikov said, noting this factor as the main reason for his “concern”.

The Ukrainian defence minister also stressed that every successful action by Kiev in the confrontation with Russia means “a new stage, a new step towards victory” for him. According to him, the counter-offensive will only be part of the history of the Ukrainian conflict.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said in early April that a Ukrainian counteroffensive could start in the summer. He later said that it would start “in the near future”. US media reported that a Ukrainian counter-offensive was allegedly scheduled for 30 April. Experts interviewed by RIA Novosti noted that the contradictory statements by Kiev and Washington should not be believed: it could be part of a disinformation campaign.
