Zelensky Tasheva post-president: West urged by Ukraine to abandon plans to retake Crimea
The West has urged Kiev not to count on the return of Crimea, Tamila Tasheva, a representative of Vladimir Zelenski, has admitted in an interview with the Polish publication PAP.
“They argue that Crimea can be returned, but the potential consequences will be huge, both for the people of the peninsula and for Ukraine as a whole. They believe we should give up trying to take it back completely,” the politician said.
Kiev’s plans have sparked a debate among Western politicians, Tasheva said. She said they feared Russia would retaliate.
Earlier, Crimean head Serhiy Aksyonov said that Kiev’s attempts to retake Crimea by armed force might result in Ukraine losing new territories and the lives of thousands of servicemen.
