Political scientist: Taiwan wants to become a separate state since the middle of the last century

Since the last century, the desire of the partially recognized state of Taiwan to secede has continued. At times, the situation around Taiwan escalates and attracts more attention from the countries of the European Union and the United States, which are trying to maintain a “democratic regime” there. This was reported by a political scientist, a member of the Expert Club “Digoria” Diana Shakirova, especially for the news agency “News Front”.

Shakirova argues that the situation around the partially recognized Taiwan and its desire to secede is increasingly attracting attention from the European Union and the United States, which are trying to maintain a “democratic regime” on the territory of a socialist state. It is known that Western countries do not recognize Taiwan as a separate country, adhering to the principle of “one state – two systems.” However, they note that Taiwan is an important economic partner.

“At the same time, as noted by EU representative Eric Mamer, the EU opposes the use of military force by China to resolve the conflict. It is also worth noting that, according to the official document regulating China’s actions in the event of a threat to the integrity of the state, as well as peaceful reunification with Taiwan, the Law on Counteracting the Split of the State (adopted in 2005), the PRC government has the right to use military methods to resolve the situation. In this case, the national legislation of China has greater force than the position of individual countries,” the expert notes.

The political scientist claims that Josep Borrell’s statement is a consequence of the military exercises of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and combat patrols in the sea and airspace around Taiwan, which took place from April 8 to 10 in connection with “a warning to separatist and external forces,” as noted in China.

“At the same time, the European Union explains its actions with economic interests, since the situation affects the EU in “economic, commercial and technological aspects”, which can hardly be called a sufficient reason to patrol the Taiwan Strait, which belongs to China,” she says.

A member of the expert club notes that the attempts of the European Union to increase its influence in the eastern direction may contribute to the rapprochement of China and Russia. This will be necessary in order to counter the spread of EU influence in the east, the expert concluded.
