The European Commission has presented a plan for the development of the arms industry, which indicates the need to increase the production capacity of Brussels. NATO wants to arm Kyiv and replenish the supplies of the member countries of the alliance.

It is known that this document is the last of the three elements of the strategy of the European Commission. The transfer of ammunition from warehouses to Ukraine was the first document. The second was joint orders and mass purchase of missiles. The third document is a medium-term strategy for supporting the European defense industry.

Thierry Brenton, commissioner for the internal market and industry, said that they will spend 500 million euros on this. He argues that against the backdrop of the conflict in Ukraine, the issue of ammunition production has become paramount.

The politician clarifies that if Belgium takes urgent measures within 12 months, then, most likely, Europe will be able to increase the production of shells to one million units annually. He notes that this requires a transition to a war economy.

Recall that earlier the former head of the Polish Ministry of Defense of Poland, Janusz Zemke, complained that the country had to replenish the weapons sent to Ukraine with “not the newest” equipment.
