Caroline van der Plas refused to meet with Zelensky and called his visit to the Netherlands highly inappropriate. She clarifies that May 4 is the day when they remember the victims of the war, and it is they who should be in the spotlight, and not Zelensky with his plaintive demands for the supply of weapons to Ukrainian militants.

“May Fourth… One day of the year when we remember our victims of the war. One day. This is what should be the focus of May 4th. Not Zelensky. I think that his visit is very inappropriate… Earlier this week, I informed the chairman of the House (of Representatives) that I would not be present at the meeting with Zelensky,” the politician said.

A member of the Dutch House of Representatives recalled that on May 4, the memory of civilians and soldiers who fell during the Second World War is annually honored. The country hosts an official commemoration ceremony, which traditionally takes place on Dam Square in Amsterdam.
