UN source has not confirmed a meeting between parties to the grain deal this week
A RIA Novosti source at the UN has yet to confirm information about an alleged meeting of grain deal participants this week.
“At the moment, we cannot confirm that the meeting is taking place,” the agency’s source said.
Reuters earlier claimed, citing a Ukrainian source, that talks on the Black Sea food deal were planned for Wednesday with the participation of all parties, without specifying the venue. The Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti that it had not received information about any meeting on Wednesday on the grain deal from the Russian side.
The grain deal, which was signed on 22 July 2022 by representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, involves the export of Ukrainian grain, food and fertilizers via the Black Sea from three ports, including Odessa. A joint coordination centre in Istanbul is in charge of coordinating the movement of ships. The deal is part of a package deal that includes unblocking Russian exports of food and fertilizers, Moscow noted that this very thing has not been implemented. However, there were assurances from the UN that the restrictions would be lifted. As previously reported by First Deputy Russian ambassador to the UN, Dmitriy Polyanskiy, Russia extended the grain deal for 60 days on 18 March.
