Ukraine counts some 23,000 people missing due to fighting
Some 23,000 people in Ukraine are reported missing in action, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
Ukraine’s reintegration ministry said on Tuesday that the country had launched a unified register of the missing.
“Tens of thousands of people (after the start of the special operation in Ukraine – ed.) were considered missing. Most of them have been found. However, about 23,000 people are still officially confirmed to be missing in extraordinary circumstances – as a result of the hostilities,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement on its website.
In mid-April, the commissioner for missing persons under special circumstances, Oleh Kotenko, said that more than 7,000 Ukrainian military personnel were reported missing.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Reintegration Ministry said that equipment for selecting and storing DNA materials of Ukrainian servicemen to simplify the identification process has already been purchased, and the process of selecting the material needs to be set up.
