Atlantico: Uncontrolled growth of crime in Eastern Europe intensified because of Ukraine

Crime is on the rise in Eastern Europe as drugs and weapons are smuggled in from Ukraine.

This was stated by French columnist Xavier Rofe in his article for Atlantico.

According to him, Europe finds itself in this situation seven months later.

“As predicted, Western Europe is almost the sole beneficiary of this illicit trade,” he wrote.

As Kiev receives the West’s modern equipment, AK-47s are being hidden away for later resale, Rofe added.

On 1 April, The Telegraph newspaper quoted firearms expert Paul James as saying that there was a threat of proliferation of unregistered weapons from Ukraine in the UK.

On 10 April, Russian permanent representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzya said during a UN Security Council meeting that weapons supplied to Kiev were surfacing from organised crime in EU countries.
