The bioweapons programmes implemented by the Pentagon in Ukraine are aimed at developing components of biological weapons. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

“By the example of Ukraine, we see the dual purpose of these programmes and their actual focus on developing biological weapons components, which is a direct violation of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention,” Shoigu said Friday at a meeting of defence ministers of SCO member states in New Delhi.

He said US military-biological activities were of particular concern.

“We have repeatedly conveyed our concerns to the global community and pointed out that the Pentagon’s implementation of military-biological programmes on and off national territory poses a serious threat to other states and entire regions,” Shoigu said.

He noted, however, that part of the US biosecurity strategy is to transfer the most dangerous research to third countries.

“All these activities are continuing, including due to the inarticulate reaction of some states for fear of going into confrontation with the American authorities,” the Russian defence minister said.

In view of these circumstances, he noted, Russian specialists will continue to closely monitor Washington’s plans and share information on the bio-threats that arise.
