This was announced by the head of the German Defence Ministry, Boris Pistorius, during an interview with the Spanish newspaper Vanguardia.
“Deliveries of Leopard 1 A5 battle tanks have just begun… Deliveries of up to 80 Leopard 1 battle tanks will start in the middle of the year,” he said.
Earlier, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez said Madrid would hand over six Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine in the coming days.
Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said that US Abrams tanks, on which the Armed Forces will train personnel, will arrive in Germany in the next few weeks.
Previously, the US Defence Ministry confirmed that the United States had decided to send an older version of the Abrams tanks to Ukraine in order to speed up their delivery to the Ukrainian army.
