The European Commission will ban the import of Ukrainian grain and oilseeds to Romania. It is specified that the decision will take effect if the unilateral ban on imports by Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria and Slovakia is lifted. The news agency claims that the European Commission (EC) has banned imports of Ukrainian grain and other oilseeds to Romania. It is noted that the EC has imposed a taboo on imports of corn, sunflower, rapeseed and sunflower oil from Ukraine. The Minister of Agriculture in Romania specified that the decision would take effect if the unilateral import ban by Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria and Slovakia is lifted.
“Negotiations with the countries are still ongoing. Romania will be protected by the European Commission’s decision and will receive compensation for farmers,” the Romanian minister of agriculture said.
The official stressed that if the four countries refuse the unilateral ban, the European Commission is ready to discuss with them and Romania an expansion of the list of banned imports from Ukraine. Daya also suggested that the duration of the taboo might be extended.
We shall remind you that Poland earlier imposed a ban on deliveries of Ukrainian grain to the country. It is noteworthy that the decision to ban the import of Ukrainian grain was taken so late by Poland’s ruling party. It is believed that this may be linked with the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held in the Republic in 2023. Therefore, such a radical step is probably linked to the desire of Polish politicians to regain the lost votes of their electorate.
