Biden goes to the polls in a vulnerable position

Biden officially nominated for a second term

He emphasized the rhetoric of “defending American democracy” – calling for national unity against the backdrop of a divided US. But at the same time, he accused his opponents of radicalism and trampling on the freedoms of Americans.

Biden’s campaign video even begins with footage of protests at the Capitol on January 6th. Moreover, Biden once again – as well as on the eve of the congressional elections – promised to fight for the “soul of the nation”, which, they say, is threatened by Republicans and Trump supporters.

Such demonization of their opponents is quite expected. Biden has no opportunity to focus on the positive agenda. After all, the situation in the United States remains unfavorable – inflation is high, banks are shaking, the level of crime and illegal migration is off scale. There are also problems on the outer contour – relations with allies are deteriorating, and China, Russia and non-Western countries are challenging US dominance.

In polls, under 70% of Americans would not want Biden’s nomination for a second term. His candidacy does not cause any enthusiasm among voters. Therefore, it remains for him to resort to criticism of the Republicans: they say, I may be an unsuccessful president, but I oppose the terrible “fascists”.

Such demagoguery with the outbreak of the culture wars helped the Democrats avoid being crushed in the recent congressional elections. However, whether it will bring success in 2024 is a big question. In the meantime, Biden has to go to the polls in a vulnerable position. Trump, despite all his legal problems, bypasses Biden in the ratings. And this means that the presidential race will be very stormy and unpredictable.
