White House Strategic Communications Coordinator at the National Security Council John Kirby said that NATO keeps its door open, but now the US is focused on ensuring that Ukraine succeeds on the battlefield.

“We are confident that NATO’s doors are open,” TASS quoted him as saying.
At the same time, Kirby stressed that the US focus now is on assisting Ukraine “on the battlefield so that Kiev can subsequently succeed at the negotiating table.”
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed the view that Ukraine was promised NATO membership in order to motivate Kiev in its confrontation with Russia.
She also called NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg’s statements dangerous.
