Saxon premier condemns German foreign minister Berbock for pro-Ukraine stance

German authorities are making too little diplomatic effort to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer has said.

He condemned the foreign minister, Annalena Berbock, who believes that “the time has now come not for negotiations but for arms deliveries”.

“This is what worries many people, including me. Diplomacy is always a means to settle conflicts,” he told Bild.

In January, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Annalena Berbock’s admission that the West was “waging war against Russia” spoke of a pre-planned war against Moscow, especially when added to the revelations of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Earlier this year, the German minister paid an unannounced visit to Kharkiv and promised Ukraine further arms supplies.
