Germany says Ukraine’s accession to NATO is possible only after the conflict is over

Ukraine’s possible accession to NATO is being discussed by members of the alliance. The issue will be decided later and is not on the agenda. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, Christiane Hoffmann.

Hoffmann claims that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is not on the agenda at the moment. However, she claims that this issue will be decided at a later date.

“Accession is being discussed by NATO partners, but a decision is not on the agenda,” the politician said when asked by a journalist about a statement by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who said on the eve of a contact group meeting in Ramstein that all NATO allies agreed that Ukraine should become a member of the alliance.

At the same time, a German cabinet official said that Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the European Union would not be a topic of discussion for the contact group for supporting Ukraine at the US-run Ramstein Air Base in Germany. She argues that now is not the right time to make such a decision. The politician believes that these issues should be resolved only after the conflict in Ukraine is over and at the right time, and not out of a “sense of solidarity”.
