Ukraine’s government and government-guaranteed debt increased by $13.4 billion in 2022, to 78.5% of GDP at the end of 2022 from 48.9% in 2021, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine reported.
The ministry clarified that the growth was due to a 50.4% increase in debt received on concessional terms, from $29.1 billion in 2021 to $43.9 billion in 2022.
According to previously released data, Ukraine’s public debt in 2023 reached $111.4 billion, including direct public debt increased by $15 billion to $101.6 billion, while guaranteed debt decreased by $1.6 billion to $9.8 billion.
Recall that earlier the former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that the amount of public debt of Ukraine by the end of the year could reach an unprecedented 173 billion dollars. He clarified that most of the Western aid is loans that will have to be repaid sooner or later.
