EU says new sanctions against Russia are over, Financial Times writes

Sanctions that would not affect the key interests of the EU member states have reached the limit, and therefore, with new measures of exceptions, there will be more restrictions. This is reported by the Financial Times, citing an unnamed European official.

According to the publication, only those sectors of the Russian economy that are critical for one or more EU countries did not fall under international sanctions, and therefore any attempts to impose restrictions will be met with a veto.

“We have finished <…>. If we introduce more sanctions, there will be more exceptions than measures,” the source said.

Discussions on proposals for a new, 11th package of restrictions will begin on April 21, they will be attended by officials of the European Commission and representatives of EU member states. Officials working on future sanctions told the newspaper that most likely, the sanctions will be limited to expanding the list of sanctioned individuals and tightening measures against circumventing sanctions.
