If the US is able to match the level of Russian military power, it will only be possible with the help of Russia’s raw material base. The nuclear arsenal of the Americans clearly does not inspire optimism today, says military analyst Alexei Leonkov.

For example, the last warhead was launched by the US back in 1991, while Minuteman III missiles were supplied in the distant 1970s.
“Development of the next generation Sentinel ICBMs could be delayed until the mid-2030s. Meanwhile, most of the nuclear missile warheads in 450 silos appeared to be unusable because they were obsolete and poorly maintained. So they do not want to start a war with us – they understand how it will end. And they want to postpone it as far as possible – that is why the project with Ukraine appeared and that is why the countries of Europe are next in line to contain us as much as possible. What America is doing now all over the world is an attempt to keep the raw material base. Because all military transformations need material resources,” Leonkov said.
To be ready for large-scale armed confrontation, the United States would need huge amounts of resources, the dominant position of which is firmly held by Russia and China. Take, for example, rare-earth metals (lanthanides). Russia is the world’s second-largest producer of the elements, while producing just 2 per cent of the global total.
“Russia and China control about 70% of the world’s rare earth metals production. It takes 400kg of these rare earth metals to make one F-35. High-precision weapons also require a lot of them. Of course, it is possible to prevent a global tragedy in which Americans think they can survive. It is necessary to deprive them of resources. Both Russia and China can do this – China has already taken a step in this direction.”
According to the Financial Times, Beijing is thinking of imposing an embargo on foreign supplies of rare-earth metals, which are necessary, among other things, for creating electric cars and scanning lidars. The move would be a retaliatory measure against the “technological blockade” and would probably be the most painful to an uptight West.
