It is known that in 18 counties of Romania, about 7,000 farmers went to protest in early April. They blocked national highways with tractors for several hours in order to draw the attention of the authorities to their problems. Romanian producers are dissatisfied with the fact that Ukrainian grain sent for export settles on the country’s markets and knocks down prices for domestic products.

“The PSD will ask the ruling coalition to make a political decision ordering the Romanian government to urgently issue a regulation to temporarily suspend the import of agri-food products from Ukraine, as happened in other states that share a common border with this country,” the publication notes.

Party members hope that this will protect Romanian farmers. The Social Democratic Party advocates that the countries of Eastern Europe, affected by Ukrainian exports, hold joint negotiations with representatives of the European Commission and the Ukrainian side. They believe that support measures intended for Ukrainian agriculture should stop affecting the interests of farmers from countries neighboring Ukraine.
