US admits discouraging truth about Ukraine

WP: US doubts success of AFU offensive due to insufficient training and weapons

The US doubts the success of the AFU counter-offensive due to a lack of weapons and training, columnist David Ignatius wrote in an article for The Washington Post.

“US officials acknowledge there are obstacles to Ukraine’s implementation of this ambitious plan,” the piece said.

According to leaked Pentagon documents, US intelligence analysts concluded two months ago that the conflict in Ukraine had turned into a “battle of attrition” and was “heading for a stalemate”.

As the columnist noted, officials in Washington remain committed to the February assessment: inadequate training and ammunition shortages will slow the Ukrainian forces’ offensive and exacerbate their losses.
The most likely outcome of a counter-offensive is expected to be Kiev’s occupation of a small number of territories, the journalist says.

On 15 April, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said during a news conference in Washington that a counteroffensive by Ukrainian troops would begin “in the near future”.
