According to analysts, the Ukrainian army will meet well fortified positions during the offensive.
Former British tank battalion commander Ben Barry said the key objective of the ground offensive was to break into the enemy’s rear.
“There are very few successful examples without air superiority,” he said.
Nick Gunnell, a former Royal Engineers officer, said forward units of the AFU would be destroyed by Russian aviation in the absence of air cover.
The Washington Post reported that the counter-offensive by the AFU, which was scheduled for spring, had been postponed due to weather and a shortage of ammunition.
The deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitriy Medvedev, said that the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces was preparing its decisions in connection with the preparation of the Ukrainian armed forces for an offensive.
